This mid-terrace Edwardian property had been subjected to external decoration to the face brickwork as a remedial attempt to address the failure of the pointing and ‘shelling’ of the brick face.

Before Restoration
Painted brickwork failure and moisture penetration    Damp damage to bay window

The use of external decoration to face brickwork often results with moisture trapped behind the decoration membrane causing ingress to the internal areas of the property. This is illustrated by the damp areas shown in the close up photograph

Work in Progress            Fully restored

To restore the façade to its original specification, the external decoration from the face brickwork was removed. Extensive repair work to face brickwork was carried out using reclaimed replacement bricks to provide the correct match. The face brickwork was repointed using a lime-based mortar and a weather-struck and cut joint.
